Award Description: The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program provides funding for formula-based grants to states, U.S. territories, units of local government, and Indian tribes. Each state receiving a grant must use not less than 60 percent of the amount received to provide subgrants to units of local government in the state that are not eligible for direct formula grants. The purpose of the EECBG Program is to assist eligible entities in creating and implementing strategies to reduce fossil fuel use, reduce the total energy use and improve energy efficiency in the building sector, the transportation sector, and other appropriate sectors of the eligible entities.

Project Description: Two Requests for Proposals issued for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funding resulted in approximately 160 applications from local governments, non-profit organizations and industry. It is anticipated that approximately 23 local governments and non-profit organizations will be provided funds to install energy-efficient building retrofits. Local governments will also be provided grant funds to retrofit street and traffic lights with more energy-efficient lighting and to install renewable energy systems. Project awards are also anticipated for Methane Recovery and Reuse. The Energy Division is working with the U.S. Department of Energy to clear environmental and historical conditions on restricted activities. Grant awards are anticipated during the month of October.
