Project Description: In conjunction with the purpose and principles of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), LBNL is managing the outlay of these funds to best preserve and create jobs while also investing in technological, scientific and health-related advances that will reap both short-term and long-term rewards. LBNL is in the preliminary phase of receiving ARRA funding and expects to sharply increase spending and hiring levels over the course of the next several quarters. To date, $211,910,362 of ARRA funds has been received from DOE for 20 projects and approximately 5.2% ($10,930,700) has been spent. Of the 5.2%, $9,622,341 has been spent on subcontracts primarily on the Science Laboratories Infrastructure Construction and General Plant projects. Additionally, LBNL has issued over $38,000,000 in subcontracts on ARRA-funded projects. Most of the projects are in the early phases of deployment: planning, design and recruitment. LBNL’s execution of ARRA funding is aiding the nation’s competitiveness by promoting innovation in various economic categories, while also addressing major national issues ranging from energy independence to climate change. LBNL's execution of Recovery Act funding will promote extended economic activity and contribute to our national recovery in line with the Act’s original intent.
