Award Description: To provide job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing for low-income or homeless families in their own neighborhoods. The program includes significant support systems, such as mentoring, placement in education and employment, personal counseling services, civic engagement, and participation in community service.
Project Description: To date we have only started to become acclimated to the new reporting requirements of this grant and to begin staff selection for a case manager, construction trainer and leadership development director, while planning for the recruitment of our participants. Once operating we will provide job training and educational opportunities for at-risk youth ages 16-24 while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing.
Jobs Summary: Job Description for EPDC CASE MANAGER/JOB DEVELOPER Purpose: To further the mission and goals of the Emerson Park Development Corporation (EPDC), while also providing ongoing counseling support, advocacy, and guidelines to program participants in order to help them deal with their personal, legal and social service needs, especially those that interfere with their ability to meet the program requirements and their personal goals; to help them determine their job goals, improve their job search skills and identify local job opportunities; and to work closely with the entire staff to build the participants leadership skills. CONSTRUCTION TRAINER Purpose: To further the mission and goals of the Emerson Park Development Corporation (EPDC), by teaching youth the skills necessary to do gut rehabilitation or new construction of a house and provide supportive guidance and encourage the development of youth leadership skills. Assist the construction manager in teaching basic vocational education (primarily carpentry), by utilizing the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Pre-Apprenticeship Program, assist in coordinating the planning and integration to the curriculum between basic skill and construction; and to encourage the development of trainees? personal and leadership skills. The job description for the Leadership Development Director is being developed at this time.
