Award Description: Invest in public transportation by contracting for architecture and engineering services, environmental services and site preparation services for the design and construction of a new operations and maintenance facility for the Janesville (WI) Transit System. Purchase and equip a new shop service truck to replace an existing 18 year old vehicle. Purchase and install 12 bus passenger shelters to replace and augment existing units which are 30 years old. Purchase and install rebuilt diesel bus engines and automatic transmissions to replace original units in 2002 model year buses which have reached the mid-point of their service life. Purchase and install automated pass, token and change dispensing machines for installation at the transfer center to increase customer convenience in using transit.

Project Description: This project will allow the City of Janesville, WI to construct a new operations and maintenance facility for the Janesville Transit System, replacing a facility which ranges between 30 and 48 years old. The new facility wil materially improve the efficiency and productivity of the transit maintenance operation while reducing environmental effects from the operation and providing safer and more reliable buses for the citizens of the City. The project will also provide improved and safer working conditions for the maintenance workforce and other transit employees. The various equipment purchases will improve the safety, reliability and customer service of the transit system for the citizens of Janesville by providing improved support infrastructure, replacing worn-out equipment, improving bus reliability, and adding additional passenger amenities.

Infrastructure Description: To invest in transportation, environmental protection and other infrastructure that will provide long term environmental benefits. To presevre and create jobs and promote economic recovery. To assist those most impacted by the recession.

Jobs Summary: Work has not yet begun. The building A&E project has not yet begun, we are still negotiating a contract with a consultant for the building and hope to start the project in the next few months. The vehicle purchase is under development of specifications and probably won't occur until next spring. The shelter purchase won't happen until next spring to coincide with the weather 'breaking'.
