Award Description: Government Services Fund - for public safety and other government services, which may include assistance for elementary and secondary education and public instititutions of higher education, and for moderization, renovation, or repair of public school facilities and institutions of higher education facilities, including modernization, renovation, and repairs that are consistent with a recognized green building rating. Of the $159.6 million awarded, $76.1 million will be awarded to counties in the form of shared revenues, $71.7 million was awarded to schools and school districts and $11.8 million was or will be awarded to counties to assist in the payment of daily fees for juveniles in their county that reside in juvenile facilities.
Project Description: 71 of the 72 Wisconsin counties were awarded money through aids to local governments commonly referred to in Wisconsin as Shared Revenue. Most of the counties utilized the funds to retain positions related to public safety, such as sheriff department staff, jailers, court clerks, patrol officers, dispatchers. A few of the counties used the funding toward payroll for general governmental services. 43 of the 72 counties were awarded additional funds to use specifically toward the costs of juvenile corrections. 425 local educational agencies were awarded funds to assist in elementary and secondary education.
Jobs Summary: Of the jobs created or retained, 1,647 were municipal positions wth the counties and another 573 positions were with Local Education Agencies. Municipal positions include: law enforcement, correctional officers, nurses, administrative staff, clerical workers, accountants, court clerks, economic support specialists, child support specialists, county clerks, health and human service staff, psychiatrists, food service staff, highway equipment operators, legal secretaries, and Youth Aid workers. Positions in Local Education Agencies include: teachers, education aides, administrative assistants, custodians, administrators, information technologists and other professional positions.
