Award Description: Meridian Hill Park is part of Rock Creek Park located at 16th and Euclid Street in Washington, DC. The High Wall is a historic concrete retaining wall which borders 16th street. The wall is up to 25 feet in height and was built in the 1930's. There has been significant movement of the wall causing structural damage to the wall. As stated in the Structural and Geotechnical Investigation Reprot dated July 2, 2008 which was prepared by McMullan & Associates, Inc., there are two main areas of concern. The first being to stabilize the wall movement and the second to address the low design bearing pressure assigned to the soils supporting the wall. The options chosen to correct these issues are to install grouted tiebacks along the wall to reduce the wall movement and to install either helical piers or min-piles at the base of the wall to address the bearing pressure issue. An analysis is to be performed to determine the need for a drainage system between the 16th Street lower wall and high wall.
