Award Description: The commercial rehabilitation of an existing, but deteriorated laundromat facility, located at 1044 South Bellevue, Memphis, Tennessee, 38106, has been proposed as a CDBG eligible special economic development activity that will create jobs and provide a low-moderate income area benefit to a predominately low-moderate income community.  Located in census tract 61, the South Memphis Alliance (SMA) Laundromat and Resource Center will leverage $600,000 in private sector funding to rehabilitate a 3,000 sq. ft. laundromat that has fallen into disrepair.  The project also will up-grade obsolete laundry equipment with energy-star rated machinery and equipment.  A pre-bid meeting has been held with the organization to discuss the bid process and development of the RFP. The drawings have been submitted for 504 review and information has been provided to assist in the wage determination. Staff in charge of the project are reviewing a contract template to insure that all relevant ARRA language is in the contract. It is anticipated that bids will be accepted soon.
