Award Description: Invest in public transportation by purchasing 10 new hybrid-electric buses and 13 new diesel buses, purchase and install new security surveillance system, improve transit amenities (install bus shelters,signage, lighting, pedestrian walkways, and ADA Access), and perform preventive maintenance on existing buses and equipment.
Project Description: To date, there was activity on the Security Surveillance System project,purchase of rolling stock-specifically fixed route buses, and preventive maintenance. 1)Secrity Surveillance System project- this project will replace all existing cameras and wiring, 49 at the Boone Facility and 58 at the Downtown Plaza. Some of the cameras have been delivered and are currently being installed. We expect the project to be complete by November 15, 2009. 2)Fixed Route Buses - purchase of 23 buses a) four New Flyer 60' coaches are currently under production and will be delivered in November, 2009. A site inspector from our organization is on-site. b) nine 40' diesel coaches will be under production at the end of October with delivery in December, 2009. c) ten 40' hybrid-electric coaches will be under production in November with delivery in January, 2010. Preventive maintenance was performed on vehicles and equipment an this project for ARRA is complete. No funds have been spent on transit enhancements. We are in the process of prioritizing specific areas that need shelters, walkways, and signage.
Infrastructure Description: Spokane Transit used its grant to purchase nine 40' fixed route hybrid-electric coaches, ten 40' fixed route diesel coaches, four 60' fixed route diesel coaches,security surveillance system for Boone facility and Downtown Plaza, preventive maintenance, and transit enhancments. To invest in transportation,environmental protection,and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. These investments will also contribute to preserving and maintaining jobs and promoting economic recovery in the vehicle manufacturing and construction industry.
