Award Description: Invest in public transportation by purchasing new transit buses for replacement purposes. This grant will provide funding for Suffolk County to purchase up to 30 transit buses.The County will purchase 30', 35' and 40' low floor clean-diesel-powered transit buses. These buses will meet the Clean Air Act (CAA) standards and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. This project will enable the County to continue replacing its transit fleet in accordance with federal guidelines governing transit bus replacement.
Project Description: The ARRA grant was awarded 8/13/09. Contract award to the successful low bid manufacturer is expected to occur during the next quarter. This grant will apply the 2009 ARRA allocation to Suffolk County of $9,458,585 to bus replacement. As a result of this investment, Suffolk County Transit will be able to offer public mass transportation service that is safer, more reliable, more environmentally friendly and more accessible for persons with disabilities.
Infrastructure Description: The purpose of this project is to invest in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits, including preserving and maintaining jobs in the vehicle manufacturing industry.
