Award Description: Invest in public transportation by replacing twelve (12) buses that have reached the end of their useful lives, replacing the authority's computer system, and performing preventative maintenance on existing buses and facilities.
Project Description: This grant will allow the transit authority to order twelve replacement buses, continue to conduct preventative maintenance on all of our buses and facilities, and replace our computer system. As a result of these investments, the transit authority will be bale to offer public transportation service that is safer, more reliable and efficient. The twelve rplacement buses have been ordered and are due to be delivered by the end of Novemebr 2009. We are currently reviewing the options for the replacement of the computer system and it should be ordered by the end of December 2009. Prventative Maintenance is currently being used to fund maintenance expenses in FY 09-10.
Infrastructure Description: The Westmoreland County Transit Authority's Recovery Act Grant will be used to purchase twelve replacement buses, to replace the authority's computer system, and to continue to conduct preventative maintenance on all of our buses and facilities. As such, the projects funded under this grant will invest in transportation and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. These investments will also contribute to preserving and maintaining jobs and promoting economic recovery in the vehicle manufacturing and computer industries.
