Award Description: The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a program funded by the U. S. Department of Labor that serves unemployed low-income persons who are 55 years of age and older and who have poor employment prospects by training them in part-time community service employment assignments and by assisting them in developing skills and experience to facilitate their transition to unsubsidized employment. In New Jersey, it's Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDLWD) administers the state portion of SCSEP funds.
Project Description: The LWD was authorized 69 ARRA Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) positions/slots; to date we have exceeded this number by serving a total of 104 socio-economically disadvantaged individuals with our Recovery Act funds. Twenty-one (21) participants have exited the program since the start of the grant and five (5) has obtained unsubsidized employment.
