Award Description: WIA Adult Grants: To provide a variety of work-related employment and training services, including job training opportunities, to unemployed or underemployed adults to support their entry or reentry into the job market. WIA Youth Grants: To provide employment-related services and high quality work experience, including an expanded summer youth work experience component, to America?s youth ages 14-24 to prepare them for the workplace. WIA Dislocated Worker Grants: To provide a variety of work-related employment and training services, including job training opportunities, to laid-off individuals to support their reentry into the job market. Project Description: Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds help adults, dislocated workers, and youth acquire the skills they need to compete in a global economy and, through training and placement, find jobs with family-sustaining wages. During the period of May-August 2009, WIA Adult activity included nearly 5,000 participants served, of which almost half participated in training such as individual training accounts, on-the-job training, customized job training, etc. WIA Dislocated Worker participants totaled nearly 12,400 and received training and supportive services to enhance their skills and quickly place into employment. WIA Youth funds were primarily dedicated to the Summer Youth Employment program activities, including educational enrichment and paid/unpaid work experience. As of August 31, 2009, Pennsylvania had exceeded its goal of nearly 8,700 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) and achieved over 9,000 SYEP participants.
Jobs Summary: PA CareerLink Program Supervisors - positions supervise PACareerLink Specialists who provide employment counseling to PA CareerLink customers, including job seekers. PA CareerLink Specialists - provide employment counseling and business services in the PA CareerLink offices and assist job seekers. Budget Analyst - responsible for the analysis and implementing of recommendations in the performance of financial workforce services including application of workforce rules, federal regulations, and procedures related to state and federal budgets. Fiscal Assistants - perform financial workforce services in support of the application of workforce rules, federal regulations and procedures related to state and federal budgets and related monitoring. Clerk Typist - provides clerical and administrative support to Rapid Response staff supervisors and Workforce Development Analysts. Executive Policy Specialist - position works closely with bureau managers and deputies to gather information and draft grant applications in a timely manner. Administrative Officer 3 - primary function to manage ARRA reporting. The Number of Jobs includes the Summer Youth Employment Program work experience for 9,159 participants, totaling 1,536,198 work experience hours during the report period. (Total jobs reported: 1,657)
