Award Description: Funds are provided for use by the Iowa DOT, cities and counties for many highway and bridge projects. In addition to the traditional highway improvements, eligibility was extended to transit capital, trails and freight rail projects.
Project Description: Highway and bridge restoration, repair, construction, etc.; transit capital costs; freight rail facilities improvements; transportation research; improvements for safety, liveability and environment; and related projects. (Iowa share of funding includes $440,000 flexed for transit projects.) Key deliverables: Highway resurfacing, paving, pavement widening and replacement, joint and crack sealing and bridge replacement; transit vehicle purchases, construction of passenger shelters, facility rehabilitation, maintenance and storageyard reconstruction; railroad track and bridge upgrades; trail construction, paving, planning, engineering, rehabilitation, culvert extension, and pedestrian bridge rehabilitation; and other.
Infrastructure Description: To preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery. To invent in transportation, environmental protection, and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits.
