Award Description: To provide financial and other assistance to prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.
Project Description: 1. New HOST (Housing Opportunities Support Team) process focused on homeless prevention, diversion and rapid-re-housing efforts has been developed and will be the process for utilizing all HPRP funds. 2. Completed environmental review and submitted to HUD for approval. 3. Three new regionally based HOST service locations are being established and led by three separate non-profit homeless service providers. These contracts have been amended to allow for the hiring of 3.0 Community Case Manager positions funded through HPRP. Contract execution is awaiting approval from HUD on the environmental review to release the funds. An additional contract amendment for a .5 SYE Community Case Manager at a fourth location is being developed. 4. An RFP has been developed, issued, and proposals received and reviewed to fund a Housing Locator Program. We are in the final stages of selecting a non-profit provider who will hire two new Housing locator positions to coordinate work of Housing Locators countywide, develop training in use of housing locator software, and promote engagement of landlords. 5. Additional Prevention, diversion and rapid re-housing efforts involving non-profits, faith communities and Fairfax County staff are underway to ensure effective use of HPRP funds. Work has already begun to develop training for staff in county and nonprofit agencies and other community and faith-based groups to enable them to implement the use of these funds.
