Award Description: The ARRA-Increase Services to Health Center funding will be used to hire a total of 1.5 full time equivalents (FTE) to address the increase number of uninsured and homeless in Ke Ola Mamo's (KOM) service areas.Over the 2 year funding period KOM proposes to register 465 new patients and 290 new uninsured patients.
Project Description: The ARRA-Increase Services to Health Center funds were used to hire 1.5 FTE personnel. A 1.0 FTE will work with the uninsured population that is seen at our medical clinic. The eligibility worker will be responsible to register, apply and follow through on the patient's MedQuest application. Should the patient be deemed ineligible the eligibility worker will seek out alternative insurances. A part time or 0.5 FTE will be hired to outreach to the hidden homeless and unemployed. Outreach efforts will focus in our coastal communities throughout the island of O`ahu. Since March 2009, the 1.5 FTE's have provided services to 153 new patients of which 133 were uninsured. The Eligibility Worker has assisted the uninsured with obtaining health insurance through the State of Hawaii's MedQuest program. The Outreach Worker continues to outreach to the coastal communities in Waimanalo, Kailua, Kaneohe, and Hau`ula.
