Project Description: Assist States in providing special education and related services to children with disabilities in accordance with Part B of the IDEA.

Infrastructure Description: The overall purpose of Wisconsin's investment of IDEA Recovery funds in school infrastructure is to improve the program for children with disabilities. All infrastructure investments support ARRA's long-term economic goals by investing wisely and improving the short and long-term results for students with disabilities. The remodeling and construction projects in Wisconsin address deficits in specific program elements. Examples of such program elements include: life skills for students who require additional assistance with daily living opportunities, occupational therapy rooms with sensory equipment to assist with sensory issues and promote prositive behavior, self-care areas to encourage student independence. Furthermore, Wisconsin's infrastructure investments provide children with disabilities access to all educational programs within a school building and integration with nondisabled peers.

Jobs Summary: The types of jobs created and/or retained as a direct result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act at the local district level include: special education teachers, special education paraprofessionals, substitute special education teachers, transition coordinators, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and assistants, school psychologists, social workers, directors of special education, special education program support teachers and coordinators, diagnostician, behavioral analyst, audiologists, orientation and mobility specialists, and personnel supporting infrastructure investments (i.e. electricians, construction workers, etc.).
