Award Description: The overall goal of the ITHS Center for Scientific Review (CSR) is to foster the development of innovative translational and clinical research by leveraging multiple existing sources of pilot funding for our membership and creating new funding programs that fill the existing gaps. Although the current ITHS pilot program promises to be successful in catalyzing early-stage research to advance discovery and translation, an administrative supplement would enhance the program in a number of ways by allowing us to adopt a targeted approach for specific types of pilot funding, to foster emerging collaborations, and to create new partnerships. Specifically, we propose that the additional funds would be used for a variety of pilot projects, using the existing CSR administrative services, procedures, and structures to facilitate review and funding: 1. A community initiated American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) project involving a partnership with local ITHS investigators 2. An IDeA-state collaborative project involving local ITHS investigators 3. An Ignition/Manufacturing award 4. A West Coast Consortium Non-Human Primate pilot that will enhance collaboration across primate centers The following principles will apply: 1. One or more junior faculty members must be part of the team of investigators for each pilot mechanism. 2. We will encourage multiple ITHS cores to be involved in any given application. 3. We will propose that matching funds be included as part of the award, whenever possible. 4. The funds will provide more money per pilot study than our current awards.
