Award Description: To integrate the Project's hazardous materials emergency training from its Parent Grant into existing workforce development training programs for healthcare. This will be accomplished through collaboration with the Healthcare Career Advancement Program (H-CAP), a decade-long partnership of SEIU Local Unions and healthcare employers. The Supplemental Project will use existing classes and class materials from the Parent Grant. The Project will access the target population through the unique conduit provided to SEIU ESF by the national network of local unions of the Service Employees International Union. It will build on its existing and strong relationship with one consortium partner from the Parent Grant, the SEIU1199 Training Fund in New York while expanding into new geographic areas for training healthcare workers through the H-CAP. The second aim of this proposal is to accelerate the purchase of replacement equipment and supplies needed to prepare for an anticipated demand for the Project?s hazardous materials emergency training for state departments of transportation and facilities for highway maintenance crews that clean and maintain roads, highways, shoulders, bridges and roadsides and maintain vehicles and for waste water treatment and distribution workers. The four states (Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire and New York) in which the Parent Program provides training have been allocated more than one billion dollars for transportation and water-related construction projects funded under the ARRA and are expected to create at least 10,000 new construction jobs.  Over the 13 month period of this Supplemental, the Project proposes to hire one full-time and one half-time staff, to train 932 healthcare workers and 160 state highway and water workers and add an additional 12 worker-trainers to our existing network under the Parent Grant. The Project will operate as a consortium, led by the SEIU ESF.
