Award Description: To design and test a method of intervention that has the capacity to promote engagement and adherence to treatment, foster recovery and reduce or prevent disability in patients experiencing a first episode of schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders.
Project Description: RFMH drafted and sent out all the subcontracts relevant to Phase 1 and all but three are executed. The three outstanding subcontracts are being negotiated. The membership for the workgroups and committees were established and finalized. Regular conference calls are being held for the Executive and Operations committees as well as the workgroups. The protocols for the four focus groups that will be conducted to obtain stakeholder feedback on the study’s approach to recruitment and enrollment of subjects, the study’s planned intervention strategy, and the anticipated outcome domains are being finalized by Westat. Two focus groups will be held in Maryland and two in New York. The RAISE team is also working on developing protocols and informed consents for two small-scale pilot studies to be conducted in UNC and UC-Davis with the goal of testing assessment measures and certain aspects of the assessment protocol. Each study will test not more than two protocol variations on less than 9 subjects each. Data collection measures and procedures will be tested for ease, readability, feasibility, and length of time to complete. Various RAISE workgroups are currently working feverously to refine measures, procedures and protocols to be tested in the pilot studies.
