Award Description: ARRA - Increased Services to Health Centers CHCW will use IDS funding to retain a high priority registered nurse (RN). The elimination of this position would have had a number of adverse impacts, which we may now avoid: ? The position is being fully deployed to perform duties essential to the optimal operations of the health center. Given that the health center is still relatively new, is adding new providers, and has recently moved to a new and larger facility, there is a great deal of infrastructure development to be achieved. This RN is actively involved in the work of developing clinical procedures and protocols for the practice. The center is in the midst of implementing an electronic health record, and the RN is the system ?power user? and primary trainer for providers and other staff. This is important work that needs to continue, and continuity in the position is very valuable. ? The position will be needed in the future. We are quite optimistic that additional providers will be recruited to the practice, and, when they are, the position will be needed to assist them with their patient management responsibilities As the number of providers and patients is increased, revenues are expected to increase to cover the salary for the position. RN?s are in very short supply and difficult to recruit, especially in a rural areas such as Kittitas County. The RN occupying the position is very well suited to health center work, and would be very hard to replace. The opportunity to retain this individual in this position is fortuitous to say the least.

Project Description: With the IDS funds we were able to retain a register nurse that without these funds would have been layed off. This position has assisted in implementation of our EMR, provided nurse visits and assisted providers with the delivery of health care to the patients we serve.
