Award Description: This is a summer supplement award to the existing parent R-15 grant (R15CA119253) that was awarded for a 2-year period. The objective of this administrative supplement award is to provide summer research experience for (undergraduate/high school) students and science educators to work on the existing parent grant.
Project Description: The student(s) were involved in a variety of tasks as described in the initial proposal. These include: 1. Cutting and polishing of individual optical fibers or fiber bundles for the building of the optical probe; 2. Constructing the simultaneous multiple illumination system using beam splitters 3. Machining, assembling, and housing the optical fibers to develop a hand-held based fiber probe. 4. Developed a simulated movie file of the hand-held probe based optical imaging system. 5. An optimized cart-based portable imaging system was designed in Solid Works. This cart was custom-designed and currently the details are discussed with various vendors to develop a custom-built product.
