Award Description: This summer research experience grant is to provide one undergraduate student and one science educator jobs for the summer learning how to conduct and analyze scientific experiments.
Project Description: We have completed the first summer of research and are analyzing the data, and are submitting an abstract to the 2010 ARO Midwinter meeting. We are continuing the research with Undergrads during the school year. By exposing undergraduate students and a science educator to sophisticated physiological behavior (spatial release from masking) experiments and proteomic experiments, should encourage students to pursue research careers and better train the science educator to understand the benefits, methodology, struggles, and rewards of scientific research and she will be able to communicate this excitement to her students.
