Award Description: - Task 1 - ARRA ? Smart Grid Investment Grant & Interoperability Coordination - $150K o Purpose: OE requires smart grid technical expertise in support of their management of the Smart Grid Investment Grant Program. OE is also sensitive to the pace of smart grid deployments and the need for there to be activities on multiple fronts to address interoperability standards to support technology integration, as well as other complicated market, business, and technology development issues. To support coordination with other agencies and organizations on this topic, OE identified the role of Smart Grid Interoperability and Standards Coordinator and requested PNNL staff to be detailed to the Office. o Description: Provide OE with on-call expertise on system integration, interoperability, and standards as it relates to smart grid concerns. The Smart Grid Interoperability and Standards Coordinator role will include interactions with NIST, FERC, and other government and non-government groups. The expectation is that this will require a full-time assignment with 50% time spent in Washington, DC, from August through much of FY09. o Deliverables: Periodic status reports - Task 2 - ARRA - Smart Grid Investment Grant Reviews - $480K o Purpose: Provide OE with reviews for the Smart Grid Investment Program. o Description: Provide reviews for the Smart Grid Investment Program. o Deliverables: Reviews for the Smart Grid Investment Grant Program - Task 3 - ARRA - Smart Grid Investment Gran Reviews - Cyber Security - $250K o Purpose: Provide OE with reviews of Smart Grid Investment Grant applications with respect to cyber security. o Description: Provide reviews for the Smart Grid Investment Grant applications. o Deliverables: Reviews for the Smart Grid Investment Grant Program.
Project Description: Task 1 - Funding was received at the Laboratory. Continued liaison relationship with NIST. Participated in the development of a framework for smart grid metrics that supports the clearinghouse and smart grid system report activities. Particpated in GridWeek. Task 2 - Funding was received at the Laboratory. An approved list of reviewers was provided to DOE. Internal processes were developed and approved by the local DOE field office to ensure organizational and personal conflicts of interest could be identified. The initial set of proposals was sent out and the review process commenced. Approximately 40 proposals were assigned to PNNL for review. PNNL staff member, Ning Lu, traveled to Washington, DC, at the request of DOE, to review a cost-benefit analysis methodology we are developing to measure the impact of smart grid projects. Task 3 - Funding was received at the Laboratory. Developed the approach and methodology with DOE. Lined up the review team.
