Award Description: Invest in public transportation through four transit capital projects: 1. Fuel Island Underground Storage Tank Modification. The gasoline and diesel fuel tanks would be modified for the City's new fleet of gasoline-electric hybrid buses. The gasoline and diesel tanks would be switched and fuel islands would be modified. 2. Construct CNG fueling station. A CNG fueling station would be constructed to allow fueling of the City's new fleet of 20 CNG buses. The facility would have up to four 3,600 psi fueling stations. The fueling stations would be next to the existing gasoline and diesel fueling islands. 3. Customer Information System Project. This system would provide real-time customer information (schedules and bus arrival times) via changable message signs at bus shelters and stops, Internet access, and to cell phones and PDAs. 4. Transit Maintenance Facility Improvements. Overhead natural gas lines in the maintenance garage would be modified to allow the maintenance of gasoline-electric hybrid buses. Since these new buses are taller then diesel equipment, the natural gas lines would be raise in the shop.
