Award Description: Since award, the Franklin Police Department has purchased a multitude of equipment. The purchase of such equipment has created jobs for the individuals of whom have and will install equipment into patrol units as well as the purchase of the AED and continued education for Franklin Police Department personnel in the use of said equipment' technological updates. The goal is to reduce the percentage of narcotic, moving violation and theft crime within the city, enhancing the safety of the citizens of whom we have vowed to serve and protect. By reducing the criminal element of illegal substance distribution and possession and reduction of violent crime within the city, we will enhance the safety of the citizens, providing a safer community, inducing proprietors, patrons and property owners to maintain business and residency within our city. The utilization of newly purchased equipment has increased the moving violation citation statistics, enhancing the awareness to citizens within this city, allowed our agency to decrease the burglary incidents and increase our arrest statistics involving illegal narcotics. The City of Franklin Police Department has initiated a 'door to door' communication program involving officers to communicate with the citizens on a personal door to door level. Officers have the opportunity to meet with citizens who can in turn relay their concerns of activity throughout the city with officers. This program has allowed the communication gap between the two parties to be minimized. The number of vehicle crash incidents has decreased by approximately 53% according to statistics for the months of July to August (present statistics are not available at this time), increased radar observation violation statistics to increase by approximately 75% and burglary incidents have decreased overall by approximately 20%. Once all equipment is available for utilization we feel confident that statistics will show a favorable increase or decrease as was originally calculated.
