Award Description: Recovery Act Health Center Cluster
Project Description: As reported in our initial quarterly report, River Hills Community Health Center?s opening of their new Appanoose County Clinic had to be delayed due to the need to find new clinic space. The original Landlord that the health center had worked with for several months was not able to get approval for complete bank financing that was needed in order to remodel his existing building that River Hills had planned to lease. Therefore a new clinic site had to be found and at the end of May 2009, the CEO of River Hills was successful in finding another suitable clinic location. River Hill?s new Appanoose County Clinic will have a total square footage of 8150 square feet. HRSA has approved a second 90 day extension for our Appanoose County Clinic, so instead of opening on December 1, 2009, the new clinic will now officially open on March 1, 2010. The additional extension was needed so the construction specs for the building could be reviewed again with Farris Engineering and our local Architect. By doing so we were able to successfully reduce the costs by $85,000.00 without negatively impacting the integrity of the project. At this point in time we have not expended any of our ARRA Funds yet for River Hills new Appanoose County Clinic. We will start expending some of those funds in early 2010 as we get closer to our actual completion date. River Hills does have one Family Practice Nurse Practitioner already hired for the new clinic and she will start work for us on February 8, 2010. I also have an employment interview scheduled with a Family Practice Physician from Ottumwa for 10/27/09 and she is very interested in coming to work for River Hills in our new Appanoose County Clinic after we open in March 2010. In addition, we also will be hiring nursing staff and other auxiliary & support staff in early 2010 so we have adequate time to get everyone fully oriented and trained before we officially open on March 1, 2010.
