Award Description: BASIC SUPPORT - STATE OF NJ DIVISION OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION - ARRA
Project Description: Assist in operating statewide comprehensive, coordinated, effective, efficient and accountable program of vocational rehabilitation which are an integral part of statewide workforce investment system; and designed to assess, plan, develop, and provide vocational rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities consistent with their strengths, resources, priorities, concerns, abilities, capabilities, interests and informed choice, so that such individuals may prepare and engage in gainful employment.Social Enterprise Grants-Grant monies will fund service-oriented businesses developed by community rehabilitation programs or faith-based organizations. The program is being discussed with several potential recipients to determine the level of interest. Worker Cooperative Grants-Monies will fund 7 worker cooperatives for years 2 and 3 of a projected 3 year cycle at $200,000 each per year. Breaking Barriers, one of the grantees, has the equivalent of 3 full-time workers placed in their worker cooperative to date, with another hire pending. Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors-DVRS is in the process of hiring 18 part-time VR counselors to lessen the staff shortages in our local offices. Three part-time employees were hired recently and 15 more have been interviewed with hire dates pending. Disability Program Navigators-Funds will be used to hire DPN, who will be employed at One-Stop Career Centers throughout the State. A MOU between DVRS and One Stop Programs and Services has been written to recruit 8 new DPNs and the funds are in the process of being distributed accordingly.College Graduate Opportunities -Funds will serve as an incentive for employers to hire individuals with disabilities who have completed a bachelor?s level college education. Originally intended to fund the first month?s salary of a new hire, the concept is under review and may be packaged as a paid internship.To fund Client Services charges of $1.0 mill. incurred prior to 09/30/09.
