Award Description: Community Development Block Grant Recovery (CDBG-R) funds to be used for CDBG eligible projects. Selected projects include, but are not limited to, rehabiliation of an existing apartment complex for use as a domestic violence shelter; rehabilitation and expansion of a detoxification center for homeless individuals; repair of hazardous sidewalks and job skill training and employment placement.
Project Description: The City will be allocating, through its public development agency, Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority, $556,808 to rehabilitate and expand community facilities including a 24-hr. detoxification center for homeless individuals and a shelter for homeless or at risk for being homeless victims of domestic violence. A portion of these funds remain available for contracting; an RFP is currently available with a deadline of October 22, 2009. Funds are expected to be committed by the end of the year. The City will also use $100,000 to repair hazardous sidewalks. The remaining portion of the funds, $115,907, will be used to provide public services.
