Award Description: Community Development Block Grant-Recovery (CDBG-R) Program - Funds to be used to provide economic opportunities for low income persons. Projects include construction of business incubator and provision of a small business loan for creation of jobs for low income persons. Also, demolition and clearance of three (3) apartment buildings will be undertaken to arrest blighting conditions in the Laney-Walker low income neighborhood. With the construction of the incubator and clearance/demolition, construction jobs will be created. LW Enterprise Initiative $400,000; Small Business Development/Recruitment $140,000; Clearance/Demolition - $36,053 and administration $30,319. Total obligated $606,372.
Project Description: Funds were awarded to the following projects: 1) Antioch Ministries for construction of an business incubator and community network center - $400,000; 2)clearance and demolition of 3 apartment buildings located at 910 Wrightsboro Road - $36,053, 3) Small Business Development/Recruitment - a loan will be provided to a business for the creation of jobs - $140,000. HPRP Administration - $30,319 for a total obligation of $606,372. Primary purpose is to stimulate the economy by putting people to work as a result of the creation of jobs.
Jobs Summary: The following jobs will be created by the following funded projects: 1. Laney-Walker Enterprise Initiative consists of construction which will create six (6) permanent jobs; 1 FT Retail Shop Manager, 1 FT Retail Shop Assistant, 5 PT Retail Shop Workers, 1 FT Receptionist and 1 PT Maintenance Worker. Fifty-one (51) temporary construction jobs will be created to include laborers, brick masons, framers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, drywall hangers, iron workers, security installers, stucco installers, painters, irrigation installers, painters, carpet installers, general labors, construction manager, quality control techs, engineers and architect. 2. Clearance and Demolition Seven (7) temporary FT construction jobs to be created to include 1 FT Foreman, 2 FT Machine Operators, 1 FT Truck Driver, 3 FT Laborers; and 3. Small Business Development/Recruitment Four (4) FT permanent jobs to include 1 FT Manager, 2 FT Wash/Fold Attendants, 1 PT Attendant (weekend) and 1 PT Security Guard. Total number of jobs to be created: 68 (Total jobs reported: 68)
