Award Description: Provide Health Physicist/Radiological Protection Engineer Support Services to the Department of Energy (DOE), Savannah River Operations Office (SR), in support of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) initiatives. This includes providing support to OSQA in performing safety analysis and reviews and other support functions for the ARRA project including, but not limited to, expertise in the areas of administrative and technical coordination of safety observations, reviews, analysis, and regulatory compliance for work conducted at the Savannah River Site under the ARRA.
Project Description: Completed General Employee Training (GET) and Radiological Worker Training. Reviewed numerous DOE-SR documents to become familiar with standard operating procedures for the organization and the project. Reviewed numerous technical documents including radiation survey maps, position letters on culvert release criteria and TRU shipping and transportation strategy documents. Provided comments and recommendations as applicable. Completed familiarization walkdowns of key facilities in the field such as TRU pads, hazardous waste pads, trenches and vaults. Participated in the DOE Assessment of the contractor F-Canyon TRU drum remediation restart project to ensure that safety and radiological controls were being properly executed in the field. This included conducting or observing numerous interviews and field observations and reviewing a variety of contractor documents. Attended meetings and interact with DOE and Contractor personnel as required. Provide detailed weekly progress reports to DOE.
