Award Description: The Department of Community Housing has developed activities under the Recovery Act to improve the current conditions of older 1937 Housing Act rental units by renovating them for the purpose of safety, health and extending the life of the units, to provide infrastructure in support of future affordable housing development for low-income families of the Community and to continue to improve the living conditions of current subdivisions. The activities will afford employment opportunities to low-income and unemployed Community members to stimulate the local economy and help families to be more self-sufficient.
Project Description: Project 1 - The tribe will complete new landscaping and modernization of exteriors for 609 rental units in Districts 1-7. Project 2 - The tribe will complete major renovations to 13 of its vacant 1937 Housing Act rental stock in Districts 3 and 5 to bring them up to adopted codes and standards. Project 3 - The tribe will extend infrastructure (electric, water, etc.) to serve a minimum of 5 new homeownership units in District 5. The units will be occupied by low-income Native American families and operated similarly to the 1937 Housing Act Mutual Help units including an MHOA.
