Award Description: This award will reimburse the City of San Antonio for the lesseer of $14,385,446 or 90% of eligible project costs associated with the design, engineering and construction of the Terminal 1/B Consolidated Baggage Handling System (BHS) Project at the San Antonio International Airport. The Consolidated BHS includes the consturction of a Terminal 1/B inline system including curbside conveyors, four make up units, transport conveyors tying into existing ticket counters in Termina 1, queues, catwalk and diverters, vertical sortation units, controls, and Terminal 1 building modifications to house the sytem.
Project Description: To construct the Consolidated BHS and place into service as part of the Airport's Terminal Expansion Project
Infrastructure Description: To preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery as well as to invest in transportation infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. The construction of the Consolidated BHS will create jobs and impact the traveling public by streamlining the Baggage Handling System to make the Airport more efficient for its customers.
Jobs Summary: The jobs created by the stimulus funds for the Checked Bag Inspection System being built in the Consolidated BHS Project are projected to be 26 temporary jobs on-site for an approximate 9 month construction period. The jobs will be electricians and conveyor/head steel installers. (Total jobs reported: 26)
