Award Description: The COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to create and preserve jobs, and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. Dollars allocated to the Delray Beach Police Department will fund (6) sworn police officer positions (salary and benefits) for 3 years.
Project Description: Officers have not yet been hired. However, candidates are in the application and screening process. The current reporting period was Feb. -Sept. 2009. During this period, the award was granted, 7/1/09, and accepted by City Commission, 9/10/09. Signed acceptance documents were sent to the Department of Justice on 9/22/09. Anticipated project start date is: 10/1/09.
