Award Description: The COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to create and preserve jobs, and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

Project Description: The purpose of this award is to hire 17 Police Officers. During this quarter the City of Bakersfield accepted the grant award and the City Council appropriated $850,000 into the Police Operating Budget. No Police Officers have been hired yet. However, the recruitment process has begun. The Bakersfield Police Department hopes to hire Police Officers from an existing academy graduate list and is in the planning stage of a new academy in January 2010.
