Award Description: Recovery Act STOP Formula Grant Program funds are competitively awarded by Virginia to local and state agencies addressing the purposes of the Violence Against Women Act. Funds are allocated to categories as follows: 25% for law enforcement, 25% for prosecution, 5% for the courts, 30% to victims services (10% of the victims services category is set aside for community-based, culturally-specific agencies), and 15% discretionary. It is anticipated that these funds will support services to approximately 5,000 victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking, as well as the investigation of more than 300 cases, and the prosecution of more than 1,700 of these cases.
Project Description: Staff supported by Recovery Act funds investigated and prosecuted cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking, provided support and legal representation during protective order hearings, provided counseling, therapeutic services, and advocacy for victims of these crimes, and provided monitoring of batterers on probation. Staff supported by Recovery Act funds also coordinated activities and developed protocols to improve the criminal justice system response to victims of violent crimes against women
Jobs Summary: Jobs created/retained include victim advocates, coordinators of Sexual Assault Response Teams and Domestic Violence Task Forces, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and legal aid attorneys. All positions funded through these funds will address domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. It is anticipated that 37.8 jobs will be created and/or retained with these funds. .61 FTEs were hired or retained by law enforcement agencies. 2.41 FTEs were hired or retained by prosecution offices. .79 FTEs were hired or retained by the courts or were hired or retained as court advocates 7.61 FTEs were hired or retained by non-profit victims services agencies. .37 FTEs were hired or retained by other entities, e.g. Universities, statewide coalitions, public agencies.
