Award Description: Provides training and support services for 50 or more laid-off workers from any one company; for 100 workers at True Textiles.
Project Description: The Governor has directed Maine?s workforce development system to expend at least 80% of the WIA ARRA funds on direct training (tuition) and participant supportive services (transportation, child care, needs related payments, etc). MDOL is focusing the use of Recovery funds on retraining eligible workers in the areas of energy, ?green? jobs, and weatherization. In addition, MDOL is also investing in post-secondary training opportunities within the growing sectors of information technology and health care.
Jobs Summary: The purpose of this grant is to provide retraining and reemployment services to approximately 123 workers affected by the closure of True Textile. The projected outcomes for this program are: Dislocated Worker Entered Employment Rate: 87% Dislocated Worker Employment Retention Rate: 90% Average Earnings at 6 Months: $12,000 Employment and Credential Rate: 68% (Total jobs reported: 3)
