Award Description: In the 2008 strategic plan, the Health West Board identified the development of a capital improvement polan as one of its key goals. Limited maintenance had occurred at its clinics, done only as needed. It also identified the replacement of the Aberdeen Clinic as its most critical capital need. That clinic is a 28 year old double wide manufactured home adapted into a clinic. This funding enables Health West to activate key components of teh capital plan, addressing its most pressing facility needs. HW will replace the aging Aberdeen Clinic, renovate space at the Pocatello Clinic for behavioral health services, and perform minor repairs at its American Falls and Lava Clinics. The Aberdeen Clinic is small with an insufficient waiting room, narrow halls, and a shortage of exam rooms(only 2) and no accessible space for health educaton and counseling. This will expand the service capacity in Aberdeen and Pocatello. A roof that does not leak, lighting systems that work and are energy efficient and sealed parking lots will improve clinic functioning and efficiency.
Project Description: Bids have been received for projects in Lava, American Falls, and Pocatello. For the Aberdeen Clinic, land has been purchased using Health West reserve funds; an architect has been retained and is in the final design stage of the clinic; a construction manager has been selected through a competitive procurement process and contract negotiations are proceeding. Work on all clinics will begin in the last quarter of 2009.
