Award Description: Two projects are currently proposed for this grant - 1) Expansion of the Landfill Gas to Electricity Program and 2) an energy audit and improvement to the HVAC system in the Hardin County Courthouse. 1) Hardin County Government (HGC) operates a methane gas collection system as part of the Landfill Gas to Electricity Program at the County owned Pearl Hollow Landfill. This proposed project is to expand the methane gas recovery system to capture the increasing methane gas supply in the active landfill. Items proposed for expansion / installation for this project include both deep and shallow gas extraction wells; main vacuum header line; pneumatic leachate pumps and tubing; condensate traps; and lateral and pneumatics lines. It is anticipated that this project will provide electrical power to 1,417 homes. Total emissions reduced by this project is equivalent to any one of the following annual benefits: Annual greenhouse gas emission from 18,775 passenger vehicles; carbon sequestered annually by 23,298 acres of pine or fir forests; CO2 emission from burning 535 railcars' worth of coal; or CO2 emissions from 11,635,900 gallons of gasoline consumed. 2) HCG plans to use EECBG funds to conduct an energy audit on the HVAC System in the Hardin County Courthouse.
