Award Description: The proposed new clinic represents a major improvement over the existing facility. The existing structure has become inadequate due to insufficient space, overcrowding, inefficient design for patient flow needs, and inability to accommodate new or enhanced services, in addition to significant structural and safety concerns. Square footage of the existing facility is 3,400. The new South Jackson facility will be 9,408 sq. ft., almost a three-fold increase. The new facility will have 12 exam rooms, essentially double the number in the existing facility. These increases are a significant factor in that they will allow the clinic to accommodate more providers and relieve over-crowding in the waiting area. The elimination of over-crowding will allow a more positive experience for patients and minimize the risk of cross contamination of pathogens and spread of contagious illnesses. The new site has been identified, and is only 1/4 of a mile from the current location. So, it will continue to be easy to reach for our target population. The lot has been purchased. The design for the building includes an efficient layout for patient flow, and will meet the needs of patients with special accessiblility requirements.
Project Description: Central Mississippi Civic Improvement Association d/b/a Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center's (JHCHC) mission: 'to provide quality comprehensive primary and preventive health care and social services to the communities we serve?we are committed to serving the uninsured and underinsured', speaks to the essence of its existence. The existing South Jackson Clinic structure has become inadequate due to insufficient space, overcrowding, inefficient design for patient flow needs, and inability to accommodate new or enhanced services, in addition to significant structural and safety concerns. JHCHC proposed to build a new structure to house its South Jackson Clinic in Jackson, MS. The demand for primary care services in the target community is high, especially among the impoverished, uninsured, and Medicaid populations. A new structure will increase clinical space to accommodate additional providers, provide a more comfortable waiting area for patients, and improve patient flow. These improvements will enhance the clinic's effectiveness and efficiency, and allow JHCHC to improve the quality of care provided. This will increase utilization of services and improve patient outcomes. JHCHC has begun all the necessary procedures to prepare to build the new South Jackson Clinic. The land, 1.8 acres has been purchased. The environmental site assessment, geotechnical engineering and flood elevation certificate, have been performed. The Notice of Federal Interest, and Checklist have been approved. The Change in Scope and NEPA are being reviewed by HRSA. The Capital Improvement Program grant funds are enabling us to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of those patients. They are also helping to provide a facility that will be designed to accommodate increased staffing and enhance healthcare services.
