Award Description: Assessing Varicella Vaccine award. The purpose of this funding is to strengthen state and local health department capacity to detect and investigate varicella outbreaks in schools and, in doing so, assess how effectively two doses of varicella vaccine (as currently recommended) prevent or control varicella outbreaks. Public Health plans to use funds to hire a limited duration Research analyst 2 and Administrative Specialist 2.
Project Description: The objectives are to build epidemiologic capacity for varicella outbreak surveillance, investigation and laboratory analysis; to evaluate the effectiveness of two doses of varicella vaccine; to assess varicella vaccine coverage.
