Award Description: The CIP funds will be used to enhance two of our exisitng facilities in order to expand and improve patient care. The first project involves the renovation of our oldest facilty. This is a 55 year old building that is being donated to our organization. This building is in need of significant renovations in order to make it more energy efficient and safe for our patients and our staff. We will be replacing an old elevator that has posed a safety risk due to its age and constant need of repair. We will also be replacing the front doors to the building in order to improve energy efficiency and reduce drafts and energy waste. A third part of this project is the replacement of the HVAC system on the third floor dental unit. This HVAC system is over 50 years old and completely inefficient. It is costly to run and even more costly to maintain. All of these renovations will improve the environment in which care is offered and reduce costs which will enable us to provide additional care utilizing the same resources. The second project that we will be undertaking is to expand our Leominster site. We will be doubling the size of the facility from 2,600 square feet to 5,200 square feet. This will allow us to go from 2 dental operatories to 6 and from 4 medical exam rooms to 6. This will triple the amount of dental patients that we can serve and will add an additional 50% to the number of medical patients that we can serve at this facility. This will be an immediate positive impact on the patients in the Leominster area.
Project Description: The initial Notice of Grant award for this project was issued on June 25, 2009 and became effective on June 29, 2009.Included in the NGA were 14 pages of terms and conditions that needed to be met before we could begin expending these funds. Over the past three months, we have systematically addressed each of these grant conditions. These included the need to obtain clearances from the State Historical Society, the Environmental Checklist and the Environmental Assessment requirements as outlined in the National Environmental Policy Act. After submission of all required documents and budget review by HRSA, we have completed all the requirements as indicated on the original NGA. On September 24, 2009 we received a revised NGA award indicating that all terms and conditions as stated on the original NGA have now been lifted. The removal of these conditions gives us the ability to start spending the CIP funds on the proposed projects. As of September 30, 2009 no CIP funds have been expended on these projects. It is anticipated that funds will be spent according to the proposed time line now that all conditions have been lifted. If you have any questions regarding the status of these projects or the disposition of the CIP funds, please feel free to contact me at 978-410-6110 or email me at jdemalia@chcfhc.org.
