Award Description: Building and Sustaining State Programs to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections in Washington State. Working with hospitals to improve the data they report to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Hire a Nurse Consultant to help provide additional educational materials, case scenarios and technical assistance to improve reporting. Train hospital Infection Control Programs (ICP) on how to make sure they are reporting all infections accurately (data validation) The expected outcome is to prevent health care associated infections. Specific expectations include better hospital compliance in detecting and reporting infections according to the definitions used in NHSN and improvements in understanding the transmission of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in Washington State.
