Award Description: This administrative supplement to the parent R01 aims to accelerate our project investigating the functional role of Mena (the mammalian homologue of drosophila enabled) in the heart.
Project Description: Heart failure is a devastating disease with poor prognosis. We recently identified dramatic increase in expression of Mena, the mammalian homologue of drosophila enabled, in animal and human failing heart tissue. Mena had previously been studied in neuronal development, however, there was a paucity of information regarding its role in the heart. This project aims to elucidate the functional role of Mena in the heart using in vitro, in vivo, and genetically engineered animal models.
