Award Description: Government Services Fund - for public safety and other government services, which may include assistance for elementary and secondary education and public institutions of higher education, and for modernization, renovation, or repair of public school facilities and institutions of higher education facilities, including modernization, renovation, and repairs that are consistent with recognized green building rating.
Project Description: This award was allocated to the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the Minnesota Department of Corrections and the University of Minnesota. At the Department of Human Services, the funding is being used to fully fund state operated facilities which provide treatment and support services to individuals with mental illness, individuals committed by the courts as mentally ill and dangerous and persons committed as developmentally disabled and who a court has determined pose a risk to public safety. Additionally, the Department of Human Services, through the Minnesota Sex Offender Program, promotes public safety by providing treatment and successful reintegration opportunities for civilly committed sex offenders. At the Department of Corrections, the award makes it possible to house corrections offenders at non state-run facilitiies, including county jails and privately-run Prairie Correctional Facility. Corrections also applied funding towards providing medical care to offenders and to pay retiree insurance, workers compensation benefits, and salaries for administration of the Health Care unit.
