Award Description: Congress appropriated $1.5 billion for communities to either prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are homeless to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. In order to receive these funds, eligible grantees had to submit a substantial amendment to the Annual Action Plan for Fiscal Year 2008-2009. Under the allocation formula released by HUD on March 19, 2009, Broward County's share of the $1.5 billion HPRP funding is $1,579,569. A Requst for Proposals (RFP) process was conducted from April 16, 2009 to June 1, 2009. Therefore, the recommendations was awarded to Broward Regional Health Planning Council (BRHPC), they created an HPRP Collaborative with three goals to quickly identify, evaluate, and successfully address the unmet housing needs of low income individuals and families in Broward County. BRHPC will be the lead agency in the collaborative which will include community partners such as Broward 211 - First Call for Help, Broward County's Homeless Initiatives Partnership Division (HIP), Crisis Housing Solutions, Legal Aid Services of Broward County, and The Shepherd's Way. Women In Distress proposes to provide emergency rental assistance to victims of domestic violence who are at risk of becoming homeless. The Homeless Initiatives Partnership Division will coordinate activities associated with the Data Collection and Evaluation category in the amount of $75,030 and the Housing Finance and Community Deveoopment Division (HF&CDD) is recommended to receive $78,978 (5% of the grant amount) for program administration purposes such as grants management and reporting requirements.
