Award Description: Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania has contracted with the Federal Communications Commission in the amount of $12,788 to open and operate two Digital Television walk-in assistance centers in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania for the NorthEast Region. ( Region 6)
Project Description: Goodwill’s walk-in assistance centers served 163 individuals from April 1, 2009-July 31, 2009. The centers offered hands-on demonstrations on how to install converter boxes including set-up with recording devices such as VCRs and DVD players. They also offered free Internet access to the government’s DTV website (www.dtv2009.gov) so that individuals could apply online for converter box coupons and access other DTV transition information. Consumers were also able to watch educational videos regarding converter box installation, antennas, reception and coverage issues.
