Award Description: ARRA provided funding to State Primary Care Offices (PCO) to assist federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, and other eligible healthcare entities caring for low-income and underserved population to become National Health Service Corps (NHSC) approved sites. The ARRA funds dedicated to strengthening the primary care workforce administered through NHSC represent a significant increase in support activities by the PCO in order to meet the demand to recruit new clinicians into the program and facilitate matching them to eligible sites.
Project Description: The ARRA funding will be used to hire a person to meet the increase demands to support National Health Service Corps (NHSC) activities. These activities include reviewing and recommending eligible site applications and approving, monitoring, and maintaining eligible sites. This person will also travel to the approved NHSC sites for on-site visits and reviews.
