Award Description: The Title VII B American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for independent living services and programs will be granted out to community based organizations who will concentrate on providing additional one time services in four priority areas. These priority areas are identified in the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) and include: Olmstead, Youth Outreach, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Veterans and Native American Services.
Project Description: The Independent Living Grant will fund the following projects. 1.Olmstead - Provides funding for the transition of Californians with disabilities from nursing facilities and similar institutions into the community. The overall goal of this priority project is to assist individuals with disabilities who are institutionalized who can be and wish to be living in their communities with the appropriate supports. 2.Youth Outreach - Provides funding for youth with disabilities transitioning from high school to optimally post-secondary education and employment. The overall goal is to provide young individuals with disabilities with supports and resources to facilitate a successful transition from high school to postsecondary education training programs or employment. 3.Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Veterans - Provides increased opportunities for Veterans and other individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to live independently and contribute to their communities economically and socially. Existing services are limited and not available in all areas of the State. The overall goal of this priority project is to provide additional supports and resources, which may lead to more veterans and individuals with TBI to live independently and/or obtain employment. 4.Native American Services - Provides funding to increase Native Americans participation in independent living and vocational rehabilitation services enabling them to live independently and achieve employment outcomes.
