Award Description: Special Education - Preschool Grants, Recovery Act to assist State make available special education and related services for children with disabilities age 3 through 5 years.
Project Description: The Special Education Grants to States, Recovery Act funds are provided to ensure that children with disabilities have access to a free appropriate public education to meet each child’s unique needs. Funds are used to assist State make available special education and related services for children with disabilities age 3 through 5 years, and at State's discretion, to 2 year old children with disabilities who will reach age 3 during the school year. The uses of funds under the Special Education Grants to States, Recovery Act are to be consistent with the current IDEA, Part B statutory and regulatory requirements. Some of the valid uses of the funds may include: (1) purchases of equipment for student use in instruction, (2) purchases of workstations for student use, (3) purchases of new resources and materials for use in instruction, (4) provide intensive professional development on evidence-based practices for academics and behavior, and (5) expand staff to support closing the achievement gap.
