Award Description: Design the following enhancements for Building 1 Extension (B1E): Liquid Helium Recovery System, Chemical/Gas storage, Humidity Control, Additional Boiler, Additional Chiller, Telecom Fit-up, Security B1E to Duct Bank to B1, Stairs at conference center courtyard, and Laboratory equipment
Project Description: Activities completed during the reporting period:HELIUM RECOVERY SYSTEM-The Helium recovery system was designed and plans and specs were developed, submitted 95% construction drawings/specs and construction cost estimate. MODIFY RETAINING WALL AT CONFERENCE CENTER COURTYARD-The design of the conference center courtyard was modified to simplify access between B2 and B1E. SPECIFY EQUIPMENT FOR INSTRUMENT AND CLEANROOM LABS: Specs for Fume Hoods and Cable Management system were developed. BUILDING ACCESS SECURITY SYSTEM-Specs for the procurement and installation of security equipment were prepared; construction documentation was submitted. HUMIDITY ENHANCEMENT FOR NIST B1E BUILDING-The current status of humidity control capability for the B1E was researched. General and enhanced humidity control criteria were determined. This did not include the cleanroom space. ENHANCED CHILLER CAPACITY AT BUILDING 42-Enhanced chiller capacity at Building 42 CUP was designed utilizing one 1,500 ton chiller, cooling tower, and associated pumps and piping; docs were delivered. UPDATE OPTION FOR ADDITION OF A SECOND BOILER-A second boiler for Bldg 42 CUP was located and designed to integrate with other existing boiler equipment. Drawings and specs were updated to reflect the proposed work. B1E DUCT BANK TO B1-Investigation was performed for providing cabling between Bldg 1 and the B1E; docs were delivered. DESIGN CODE COMPLIANT CHEMICAL AND GAS STORAGE AREAS: A schematic design was prepared to show the results of project investigation and requirement needs of NIST. Construction docs were prepared based on the approved schematic design concepts; 95% construction documents were completed. DESIGN AND SPECIFY THE TELECOM FIT-UP FOR THE B1E: An investigation for providing telecommunications fit-up to meet the functional needs of the B1E. Prepared design and specifications for the procurement and installation of telecom equip; 95% construction docs were submitted.
